Glass Cutting Drill Bits

Glass drill bits aren’t drill bits made of glass, but rather glass cutting drill bits. But you probably knew that. What you may not know is how to find and use a drill bit for glass. Diamond drill bits are the best drill bits for glass because they’re extremely hard and grind instead of cutting or gouging. Masonry drill bits with a carbide tip may also work in some cases, but diamond glass drill bits are a much better option. When drilling glass be aware of the heat that’s being generated. This friction can chip or shatter glass and ruin the bit, so use plenty of lubricant at all times. Water is fine, oil basted lubricants are better, but don’t overdo either or you’ll wind up with a thick paste of ground glass. Also drill slowly, 600 RPM at the most, and use light pressure. Never try drilling tempered glass. It will almost always shatter. Finally, wear a mask and safety glasses. You are dealing with ground glass after all.
