Masonry Drill BitsMasonry drill bits are designed to drill through hard materials like brick, stone and quarry tile. They are usually carbon tipped drill bits, meaning that have a cutting tip made from tungsten carbide bonded onto the spiral shaft. In certain circumstances a spear shaped masonry drill bit may also be used on glass. Carbide drill bits used for drilling masonry should be used in a powerful drill, and may even be used in a hammer drill. Masonry drill bits must be used at low RPM to avoid overheating the carbide tip, though an oxide surface treatment can lessen friction and extend the life of the bit. These bits generally work best with light pressure. Masonry drill bits are often used on standing structures, i.e. buildings, and must at times be able to penetrate solid walls. Long drill bits are therefore a necessary part of any good masonry drill bit kit.
